"The New York Times reported Tuesday that Trump “is demanding that the Justice Department pay him about $230 million in compensation for the federal investigations into him.” Those are DOJ probes into connections between Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russian intelligence activities intended to help him win that election, and Trump’s alleged violation of the Espionage Act, and other laws, by evading Justice Department efforts to recover highly classified documents that Trump lifted from the White House when he left office in 2021, some of which he apparently stored in a Mar-a-Lago bathroom.
The Mar-a-Lago case, which included a 2022 FBI raid of that property that Trump takes particular exception to, resulted in Trump’s 2023 indictment on dozens of counts. The case was later thrown out on a technicality by infamously pro-Trump Judge Aileen Cannon, a ruling that DOJ was appealing when Trump’s election effectively ended the case.
Whether Trump will get his payout is officially up to DOJ’s Deputy Attorney General, or the Associate Attorney General who oversees the agency’s civil division. Those jobs are held respectively by Todd Blanche, a former Trump lawyer who represented Trump on the Mar-a-Lago case, and Stanley Woodward, who represented a Trump co-defendant in that case, along with various current Trump aides."
It's a beautiful heist in it's brute simplicity. The mob boss retakes his territory and grows stronger, and now he is using that position of strength and impunity to shake down his own people for a quarter of a billion, AND, get this - the only two guys in the DOJ who can approve handing over of that quarter of a billion in taxpayer cash to the mob boss are both former personal attorneys of the mob boss who had defended him in his criminal trials. Lol. Beautiful, right?
Now that the Godfather is back in control and his mafia crew set in place, he sees his newfound authoritarian power as a ripe opportunity to exact a bit of financial recompense for his having been bothered to have to defend himself from some very credible, very serious, and potentially treasonous criminal charges, of which ample evidence existed of his guilt. The only thing that saved Drumpf from a prison cell was his 2024 election victory, which had him improbably and suspiciously winning ALL seven battleground states.
But seriously, Drumpf is letting his full mobster freak flag fly now.
Mother Jones ought to change that headline to say: CONVICTED FELON POTUS SHAKES DOWN HIS OWN COUNTRY FOR A QUARTER OF A BILLION IN TAXPAYER MONEY!
Just saying - it would have been much more accurate and to the point.
But seriously, the fucking gall of this guy. It's been reported that he and his family have already increased their wealth by $3.4 billion in the nine months since Drumpf wormed his way back into the White House. This is just another scam to put more bling, this time straight from the American taxpayer's pocketbook right into one of Drumpf's offshore or Chinese bank accounts.
Oh - and by the fucking way - the 2-year long Mueller investigation not only confirmed that Drumpf's 2016 campaign accepted help from Russian operatives to help Drumpf beat Hillary Clinton, who Putin hated and knew would be tough on Russia, but also that Drumpf himself had committed multiple counts of obstruction of justice which, per Robert Mueller's public testimony to Congress, would have resulted in criminal indictments if Drumpf had not been the sitting POTUS at the time. Go read the official Mueller report detailing the 2016 Drumpf campaign's collusion (because there's not better description for it) with the Russians and Drumpf's criminal obstruction actions. This is one link below, but it can be found on many other public domain websites, perhaps even the US government website if Drumpf's fascist trolls haven't purged it yet.
