19 Beheaded in 17 Days; 8 for Nonviolent Offenses

(Beirut) – Saudi Arabia has executed at least 19 people since August 4, 2014. Local news reports indicate that eight of those executed were convicted of nonviolent offenses, seven for drug smuggling and one for sorcery.

Teach Your Children Well . . . . And Know They Love You . . . .

It warms The Gadfly's heart to know that some of our young people were taught properly what it truly means to get a "quality" education.

Observe:

Hundreds of students throughout suburban Denver protested a conservative school policy proposal by walking out of classrooms Tuesday. Following a policy trend that’s gaining traction nationwide, the Jefferson County School Board in Colorado plan would restrict history education to subject matter that “promote[s] citizenship, patriotism, essentials and benefits of the free-market system, respect for authority and respect for individual rights.”

According to the curricula proposal, students would only be taught lessons depicting American heritage in a positive light, and effectively ban any material that could lead to dissent. Under the proposed policy, a review committee would regularly read instructional text and course syllabi to ensure that educational materials do not stray from subject matter that complies with the policy.

It really is a hallmark aspect of the conservative movement to try and stifle the open and honest discussion of America's past.  They want to highlight the good, which of course there is plenty, but they so desperately want to sweep the bad that we've done under the rug as if doing so will make it seem that it never occurred to begin with.

Don't teach the children that slavery ever happened.  Don't teach the children that native Americans were exterminated on a level approaching that of the Nazi's elimination of the Jews in WWII.  Don't teach the children that workers in this country at one time were treated like pieces of human shit and used like disposable rags and that child slave labor was acceptable.  Don't teach the children that women were viewed as second class citizens until the mid 20th century.  Don't teach the children that there are big corporations that view war as a profit making opportunity.  Don't teach the children that 97% of climate scientists are of the view that global climate change is real and caused by human activities.  Don't teach the children that the right wing, fundamentalist religious nuts in this country think that WW3 is their ticket to Armageddon and a seat at God's banquet table.

Because apparently, if you simply do not teach these truths, they just never happened -- it's all just a big liberal conspiracy of myths dear readers.  Voila!  And of course, by not teaching the truth about any of those transgressions, you almost certainly guarantee they will be repeated.

That dear readers is your right wing world view in a nutshell.  Reality denial in all of it's psychotic glory.

Good for these young people for standing up and speaking out against conservative ratfuckery.  We'd be much better off as a country if the adults in their communities had the moral and intellectual courage to do the same.

Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst (R) warned that "prayer rugs" have been found on the Texas side of the Mexican-Texas border and suggested that states have both an obligation and a right to act independently of the government on border security.

What Dewhurst wasn't telling his timorous, slack-jawed audience, was that he purloined that frightening story of the purported Muslim "prayer rugs" being found on the Texas border from Breitbart.com.  When you think of Breitbart.com, think of Fox "News" with even less integrity and credibility, if that is even possible.  And of course, as it so happens, the Breitbart story was debunked, when after further scrutiny, the so-called "prayer rug" found by some militia nut, turned out to be an Adidas soccer jersey - LOLZ!

Anyhow, this whole effort by the conservatives to gin up the ISIS is under your bed horror/drama truly is a measure of just how desperate they are to keep the rubes in their ranks engaged in their political messaging just enough so that the national elections are barely competitive.  Truth be told, if it weren't for the right's ratfucking activities, the present day Republican party would have long ago been relegated to the historical dustbin of failed ideological/political movements.

It's all they have folks -- fear and lies and hate and more fear and more hate and more lies.  It is the lifeblood of their crusade, and not at all unlike how a certain fascist leader of the 1930's used the same tactics to cow and coerce his fellow countrymen to follow him to the abyss of world war hell, it's becoming all too apparent that this modern day American conservative movement has no trepidation in following that same path of self-destructive behavior - which can only culminate in eventual ruination of their country's dreams and future.

It's not too late to stand up to them and be part of the effort to stem their power grabbing strategy and their hopeful, albeit damnable, governing plans.  And, far be it for The Gadfly to be a nag, but it truly does all begin with the act of showing up at the voting booth this November and making your vote count.  Simple as that.

The simple, unadulterated reality of the matter is that as the conservative movement has no reality-based vision for the country's future, no ability to compete equitably in the arena of sane ideas, no "leaders" within their movement who are worthy of being elected POTUS, much less local dog catcher, and no rational defense for their hatefulness, bigotry and selfishness, they are stuck then with creating these juvenile "scandals" such as Obama's latte salute, or claiming immigrant kids are a security threat to the nation or that climate scientists are scheming and conspiring and lying about climate change in order to steal your money and freedom.

A Uniquely American Pandemic: Our 'Chicken Little' Syndrome . . .

Honestly -- it's getting harder every day for The Gadfly to reconcile the bed-wetting ISIS fear mongering that is on display constantly from our mainstream media, with many Republicans happily flogging the nonsense right along with them, with the country of men and women who stood up to a true world-wide threat in Hitler and the Nazis and Japan in WWII.

Maher is fucking dead on right when he mockingly refers to some in the U.S. being worthy of having their version of America being known as the "United States of Pants Shitters."

The comical histrionics of McCain and Graham though, are only a symptom of the bigger and more sinister issue of a media that seems to have wholly abdicated it's role of truthfully and apolitically informing the American public of what is going on in the world and how it might affect us all. Instead, our media appears, for all intent and purpose, to have permanently "embedded" themselves within the military/petro-industrial complex altogether and are nothing more than propaganda functionaries of that entity at this stage.
