Play Time . . . . . .
A few years ago, when The Gadfly had a Facebook account, he posted a music video that immediately garnered him several responses from old time friends who were astonished that, not only had The Gadfly remembered this totally forgetful song from his 70's era, but had actually found a video of it. That was probably The Gadfly's most treasured moment from his Facebook years .... the rest was all pure bullshit.
Here's the famous video:
And a cookie to the first dear reader who can tell The Gadfly who Nigel Olsson was drummer for.
Big cookie!

Snot Running Down His Nose . . . . .
This has absolutely nothing to do with anything but if you dear reader like it, then The Gadfly considers his mission accomplished . . .

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Apparently some NFL football games took place today. As The Gadfly's team was sadly not part of the crowning process, he did not take too much heed, other than to note the winners and losers.
Congrats to Denver and Seattle.
Now we have to look forward to -- two fucking interminable weeks of Super Bowl media asshattery. Oh joy.

Ode to a Hypocrite and an Abuser . . . .
Oxycontin, familiarly known as hillbilly heroin, was the drug of choice of conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh.
And so The Gadfly has a song to dedicate to the old, flabby gut, brain-addled addict:
Ol' El Rushbo will know what the lyrics of this song are referring to . . . hehe.

Too Little, Too Late, or Too Late and Too Little? . . .
Now he says so:
With a majority of Americans now in favor marijuana legalization, President Barack Obama is now saying weed is no more dangerous to individuals' health than alcohol.
In an interview with the New Yorker's David Remnick published Sunday, Obama said while he believes marijuana is "not very healthy," the drug isn't as harmful as some insist.
“As has been well documented, I smoked pot as a kid, and I view it as a bad habit and a vice, not very different from the cigarettes that I smoked as a young person up through a big chunk of my adult life. I don’t think it is more dangerous than alcohol," Obama told Remnick.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/19/obama-marijuana-alcohol_n_4627740.html
The Gadfly will gladly criticize Obama for waiting until his second term to say what he has always known to be true, but understands it was done out of political necessity. Obama, like most politicians is a moral coward.
But now let's take it a step further -- Mr. President -- especially if you truly believe what you have said -- order a stop to the completely useless and money wasting federal raids on on medical marijuana clinics that the DEA, yep -- that rogue, failed organization that we have talked about -- is doing all over the country. That would be the all definitive proof that Obama truly believes what he is stating and is not just mouthing niceties that his liberal political base likes to hear.
It's called principles Mr. Obama. Most people put tangible value in them. Back up your statements with action and challenge and send a message that the DEA losers and their supporters will clearly take heed of.
And before anyone attempts to insinuate that The Gadfly does not respect the hard work and the dangers that DEA people face day in and day out --- ask yourselves DEA folk --- why do you have to face those dangers? Have you never considered that your mission is fatally flawed to begin with? If not, then that is a sign of hubris, and it only serves to provide more evidence that your organization is out of control and in dire need of not just more stringent oversight, but also a review of whether your existence is even beneficial to the public good any more.

A Culture Too Accustomed to Idiocy . . . . .
Speaking of public figures tripping on mind-altering substances:
The Gadfly swears --- substitute Morrison's LSD flavored ramblings with Mary Matalin's blathering, and most viewers wouldn't bat an eyelash. That's how ridiculous and out of touch these "news" talk shows have become.

Does ABC News Have a Habit of Booking Mentally Disturbed People on Their Political Talk Shows?
Speaking of people being high on some type of hallucinogenic substance or another:
ABC News contributor Mary Matalin compared President Obama to Dick Cheney on national security issues on Sunday, setting off a debate between the panel members on "This Week."
The roundtable was assessing the president's speech on Friday about reforms to the National Security Agency. Obama outlined proposals for changes to the NSA's programs, but largely defended the agency's domestic surveillance activities as necessary for protecting national security. David Remnick, the editor of The New Yorker, pointed out that they were the types of programs that Obama used to oppose as a senator.
Mary Matalin compared Obama to Dick Cheney, saying, "He was against it before he was for it. Now Barack Obama is Dick Cheney. He needs these policies, they are necessary for our security."http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/19/obama-dick-cheney-mary-matalin_n_4627955.html
Listen dear readers -- The Gadfly knows full well that Obama has to kowtow to the national security apparatus -- as does every president. Does that make it right? Not at all. Does that make it politically acceptable? No. However, the president did pledge the other day, after Sir Snowden revealed that what Americans have always suspected of their government's domestic spying activities were pretty much true , that there will be more transparency and congressional/civilian oversight of the spook programs and their activities (believable or not) . Take it for what it's worth.
But for Mary Matalin, former counselor to Darth Cheney, to just blurt out a blanket statement that Obama is the same as Dick Cheney .... fucking ROFLMAO . . . . (that is internet speak for Rolling On Floor Laughing My Ass Off).
Let us perform a short, perfunctory review shall we:
DUI Dick. Corporate criminal Dick. War liar Dick. Torturer Dick.
Oh yeah -- the guy who is trying to ensure most of his fellow citizens have access to basic, affordable health care is just like Dick Cheney.
Calling Dr. Drew! Calling Dr. Drew! --- Mary Matalin obviously has a substance abuse problem -- so let's get her ass in the facility --- double her up in a room with Dennis Rodman.

It's Time. It's Long, Long Past Time . . . . .
** Upfront Disclaimer: The Gadfly has not partaken in the gratification of the magic green plant since his post-military days in the mid-1980's. He has, however, been a reliable consumer of fermented beverages of all sorts, and still is to this very day.
More proof that The Gadfly is not a lock-step Democrat, and is just as apt to tear in to any one of them when their stupidity calls for it - as he would a Republican.
Case in point -- this jackass:
Recreational marijuana is now legal for adults to purchase in Colorado. Those same adults have been able to possess and consume pot legally since 2012, when votersapproved Amendment 64. But the state's Democratic governor said he "hates" his state's legal weed "experiment."
Gov. John Hickenlooper revealed his feelings about marijuana legalization to the Durango Herald's editorial board Friday.
“I hate Colorado having to be the experiment,” he told the newspaper.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/13/hickenlooper-hates-legal-weed_n_4589926.html
"Sniff! Sniff! Oh woe is us!". . . For what other reaction could be expected toward the marijuana legalization movement by someone who made their million dollar fortune in peddling a competing mood altering substance - alcohol?
Apparently Hickenlooper is of the clownish belief that there are reputable, documented studies showing the number of auto-accident deaths, domestic murders, and other violent incidents committed solely by marijuana smokers, which mirror the carnage factor that is alcohol. And he would be laughably wrong.
But why let facts get in the way of pandering to the pro-alcohol, anti-drug, living, breathing paradox people - right?
Governor Hickenlooper obviously has not taken in to full account the fact that the people of his state decided, by a clear majority, that marijuana was no more harmless a mind/mood altering substance than tobacco and alcohol, and as such have legalized it's sale and usage. And if he continues to be an asshole and push the issue, The Gadfly wouldn't wager a wooden nickel on his re-election should he decide to go for it.
The Gadfly has already talked about defunding the miserable failure known as the DEA and diverting that money in to drug education and prevention and rehabilitation programs.
But the bottom line, as far as booze producing Governor Hickenlooper is concerned, is that whether he likes it or not, marijuana legalization is coming, in fact it is already there in his state, and by the time all of the political/social debate dust settles, it will eventually be viewed in the same vein that your liquor stores are on every street corner today. The anti-legalization clowns have had decades and billions of dollars to prove that their methods were effective. They have failed - period. Time for a change in strategy.
