Linda McMahon looks like a woman condemned to life in prison in that picture, doesn't she? The look in those eyes tell the complete story.
Seriously, I totally understand though. It's the look of someone who has been duped into doing something stupid and harmful, and is having deep, inner regrets about it.
Drumpf nominated McMahon to be the US Secretary of Education not because she was qualified for the position, but because just like Betsy DeVos, she was a billionaire and big donor. And here Linda thought she was going to get a cushy job delegating and mostly letting underlings run the show while she got to do all the traveling around the country and the world on the public dime and being the face of the Department.
But then, right after her wretched nomination gets approved by Republicans, Drumpf issues an order directly to Linda, telling her that her primary objective is to destroy the US Department of Public Education. He told McMahon to "put herself out of a job."
And that's why you see that pained look on poor Linda McMahon's face. Drumpf did a bait-and-switch job on her and all of a sudden she discovers that her job is to be the foreman of the wrecking crew laying waste to the Department of Education. And being the dutiful apparatchik she is, there is no doubt she will follow the order she has been given. Today in fact they announced the impending firing of a third of the Department's workforce, and that will only be the opening salvo.
And so now the WWE wrestling queen Linda McMahon gets to be the public face for the one who helped destroy the American public education system. What a lovely gift DonOld bestowed upon her, no?
There really is nothing sacred to Drumpf and his musky cabal of charlatans, spooks, and right-wing agitators. Not public education. Not Social Security. Not Medicare or Medicaid. Not Veteran's healthcare and pensions, certainly not public assistance. They want to take a flamethrower to all of it. And they will do it if people are silent and allow it to happen. It's that simple.
The problem with the plan of Drumpf and MuskRat though is that all of the above mentioned programs are indeed sacred to a clear majority of Americans. This ending social security, ending Medicare, ending VA benefits, ending public education assholery will eventually trickle-down and affect every state, city and community in this country. If Drumpf and his trashy enablers truly are hellbent on ending public education, I think they grossly underestimate, to their own political danger, just how much most Americans cherish their local public education system and educators, and will steadfastly defend them.
If Drumpf and Elmo make a serious move to "wind down" the American public education system, just like they want to "sunset" Social Security, the impact will be massively damaging and the public backlash will be swift and severe.
