This is why it was a bad idea to give unfettered governing power to a party that is essentially a bought and paid for subsidiary of the 'valueless' billionaire class and foreign interests who are hostile to a successful American democracy, and who have given their unbridled economic support to a lifelong criminal and con artist as their party leader:
Link: The Trump Administration’s Trade Wars Are Crushing U.S. Small Businesses - Center for American Progress
"President Donald Trump’s embrace of tariffs to a level not seen in more than a century, supposedly to foster the redevelopment of the country’s industrial base, will do the opposite of what he intends it to do. It will crush U.S. small businesses, particularly those engaged in manufacturing, decimating the backbone of American industry and of countless communities across the country. Already, corporate bankruptcies are up 7.38 percent year over year, commercial freight contracts have plummeted, ports are empty, and hiring has been frozen across several different industries.
The Trump administration’s trade wars will hit—and are already hitting—small businesses, which employ nearly half of all U.S. workers, from multiple directions, putting significant strain on their operations. The net effect will be layoffs, furloughs, and downward pressure on wages and benefits for American workers. In fact, small-business owners face an almost unprecedented situation as they deal with massively increased operating expenses, higher borrowing costs, and in many cases, falling demand for their products or services abroad."
"The widening rift between the haves and the have-nots continues to be borne out in federal data, as a Thursday Bureau of Labor Statistics report revealed U.S. workers are doing more and reaping less.
Workers are earning record low wages and other compensation compared to their labor output, according to the BLS productivity and costs report published Thursday. Called the “labor share,” this indicator essentially measures how much of the nation’s economic earnings is used to pay wages and other worker benefits.
At 54.1%, workers are netting the lowest earnings compared to the income they’re producing since the data started being collected in 1947. Meanwhile, labor productivity increased 0.8%, output increased 1.5%, and people worked 0.7% more month over month.
“I think it’s really disturbing news for workers,” Joseph McCartin, professor of labor history at Georgetown University, told TPM, “because it shows that even while the economy is growing, workers are getting a smaller and smaller share of the economic pie.”"
So, if America's "workers are getting a smaller and smaller share of the economic pie," which selfish pigs are unfairly gobbling up the worker's share of that economic pie?
Drumpf's tax cuts from his first term should have been a clear sign that he and his enablers do not give a shit about working Americans. Those cuts massively favored the class of "earners" whose obscene wealth is primarily geared toward putting ever more wealth in their own bank accounts and giving less and less back to the country that helped them gain that wealth.
Very little of the 'idle' billionaire wealth in this country gets turned around to benefit American businesses, or American workers and their states and communities.
I think specifically of the social media tech bro billionaires for example, whose products produce nothing of true value to Americans and the communities they live in. Seriously, they don't. I mean - think about it. If all the Twitters and Facebooks, and TikToks, and Instagrams and yes, even Blueskys, etc, ad nauseam were to shut down permanently tomorrow, society would keep humming along just fine without them, just as fine as before they ever existed to begin with.
And that's why I call those kinds of billionaire products 'valueless' because while some people would piss and moan and about losing access to their favorite social media sites, the fact is, most people would get over it and move on fairly quickly because social media is not a life necessity product and life really is too short to be crying over not having a social media site to waste all your time on anymore.
The simple truth is - America has a surplus of dead weight (mostly tech-bro) billionaires who rake in their billions her in the U.S., pay little to no taxes with their corporations thanks to 45 years of conservative Republican "trickle down economics" lies and bullshit and Drumpf's tax cuts and billionaire-friendly tax laws, and collectively they are a net drain on American productivity and their products are mostly a plague on our social fabric.
The Muskrats and the Zuckerturds and the Brins and the Pages hide most of their personal wealth in offshore tax havens to evade paying taxes in this country, and essentially put little to nothing back in or give anything back to this country and the American working people who made it possible for them to attain such fabulous wealth.
Elect progressive candidates for higher office. Only radical tax reform change can put an end to the Republican party's insidious 'trickle down,' billionaire-concocted economic theories that have been economically strangling hard working, fair playing, taxpaying Americans for the better part of the last five decades.
