"Long-time journalist Dan Rather warned President Donald Trump in a new Substack essay on Tuesday that the president faces a "humiliating" loss in Iran, one that would leave "irreversible damage" in its wake.
Trump has claimed on multiple occasions that the U.S. is winning the war in Iran because the country's bombing campaigns took out Iran's top political and military leaders and have decimated Iran's nuclear weapons infrastructure. For instance, Trump claimed on Truth Social on April 9 that he had achieved a "real victory" in Iran because Iran "will never have a nuclear weapon."
However, Rather argued in his essay that Trump's explanation of how the war is going is "insulting your intelligence," referring to his readers.
"Anyone who claims victory in this disaster is insulting your intelligence," Rather wrote. "If — and this is a very big if — the United States can somehow return to the pre-war status quo, it would be a stunning reversal of present realities."
Since the war began, Iran has effectively shut the Strait of Hormuz to international trade. The waterway accounts for about 20% of the global energy trade, and energy prices across the U.S. and Europe have increased significantly over the last 12 weeks of war.
"Significant and near irreversible damage has been done," Rather wrote. "The Middle East is forever changed because of Trump. Our allies now look upon us with suspicion at best, derision at worst. Relationships are strained to the point of breaking throughout the region and Europe. Allied trust is gone, while in Iran the regime remains in control.""
I am making an extremely serious effort to wrap my mind around the fact that Donald Trump took the United States to war alongside UN wanted war crimes thug and criminally indicted Bibi Netanyahu's side in Iran against the advice of wiser heads in the US military and US intel community, and just a little over three months into the conflict, DonOld is on the cusp of losing that war by having to capitulate to Iran's demands and the US has to slink away with it's tail between it's legs.
Yet, the demented old mobster still has the support of 80% of Republican voters in this country. Go figure.
I mean - if that doesn't highlight the utterly blaring vein of nihilism that is embedded in the impaired mindset of a large segment of primarily white conservative Christian voters in this country, then I don't know what does.
I mean -- let's take honest stock of where we are at right now with Drumpf's governance:
👉 Drumpf and his administration are now five months into committing the ongoing criminal act of refusing to release the millions of more documents in their possession from the 'Epstein Files' to the American public as required by law. They are actively defying the law every single day that they keep those documents from the public's view.
👉 Drumpf's interim US Attorney General is opening politically tainted investigations of DonOld's perceived enemies and participating in a brazen scheme to steal $1.8 billion in US taxpayer money and use it as a 'slush fund' to reward the 1600 or so pardoned felons, many violent, who heeded Drumpf's call to attack the US Capitol on January 6, 2021 in a failed attempt to overthrow the legitimate results of DonOld's landslide loss to Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
👉 Drumpf's $200 million gold-leafed 'ballroom' project that was going to be paid for by his billionaire 'friends' and which has now ballooned to more than $1 billion in cost and which Drumpf now wants US taxpayers to pay for, has been halted by a federal court. He is defying that order and continuing with construction of the 'ballroom'/bunker hangout.
👉 The US economy is in an inflationary tailspin thanks in large part to Drumpf's 'Big Iran Armageddon Adventure' contributing to dramatic rises in prices of everyday necessities such as gas, utilities, and food, all at a time when this corrupt administration is slashing and burning down traditional American social service and safety-net programs so that larger and more generous tax cuts can be given to the already laughably under-taxed billionaire class folks like DonOld's benefactors Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and Peter Thiel.
👉 Even though he is on the verge of losing one war that he mistakenly involved us in, Drumpf is drawing up plans to invade Cuba next, and either seize or kill their 94-year old leader. He has also resurrected his threats to seize Greenland by force from Denmark.
👉 We found out Drumpf is spending upwards of $15 million or more to paint the floor of the D.C. reflecting pool blue so that it matches the glaring blue tint of the swimming pool at his Mar-a-Lardass Porn Resort and mob hangout.
👉 DonOld is being sued for trying to bully through the building of a ginormous, Nazi-era architecture inspired 'victory arch' to loom over all other federal buildings and sites in D.C.
👉 Drumpf and his family have surreptitiously increased their combined wealth by over $4 billion in the 17 months he has been back in the White House. In contrast, President Barack Obama wore a tan suit in public and put his feet up on the oval office desk once and the conservatives in this country went fucking ape shit.
If all of this sounds absolutely fucking insane, it should, because it is insane. There is not one shred of normalcy in what we are witnessing with the corrupt shitshow on display in our nation's capitol right now by Drumpf and his MAGA apparatchiks.
That we as a people are putting up with this madness shows just how badly we as a society have lost our democratic values way and have essentially given in to having our American lives ruled over by some of the vilest, most corrupt, and morally bankrupt people that this country has ever produced.
