For Whom The 'Pink Slime' Tolls - It Tolls For Thee America

This is what good, straight-up news journalism looks like.

This Mother Jones investigative story is worth ten minutes of your time.  It's a solidly researched story and there is some valuable information that Americans should know about as to how dark money has created all of these online "newspapers" that with their web presentation give the impression that they are actual localized newspapers in specific states and sometimes even cities and towns.  And of course almost all of them turn out to be nothing more than murkily funded, purely online, right-wing propaganda outlets.

"Media observers have dubbed such agenda-driven news sites “pink slime”—so named for by-products added as filler to ground beef. Pink slime news is a growing phenomenon, according to University of Cincinnati journalism professor Jeffrey Blevins, rising as partisan interests take advantage of the devastated newspaper market. “We saw these news deserts popping up,” he says. “It was very cheap to put in a website and say, ‘Okay, we’re doing local news.’ Local news is always seen as being more credible.” Sites like the Tennessee Star, he explains, use that perception to push “poor-quality” coverage “funded by some outside political interest.”"

"Funded by some outside political interest."

Hmm, I wonder who that could be? . . . .
