Watch Brit Hume on Fox "News" this morning trying smugly to convince the somnambulant Fox viewership that the reason NJ Governor Chris Christie is seen by some as a bully and a thug is because in actuality, Christie is just one of those misunderstood "old fashioned guy's guy" type of men.
Sure Brit - because yelling at and belittling lady school teachers in public, hurling cheap shot insults at reporters who ask questions you don't like, and talking to your constituents as if they were your subservient serfs instead of you being their tax dollar salaried employee and representative is the way "real" men behave in public.
It is also indicative of how acutely the world-view bubble in which Hume inhabits at Fox has been hopelessly infected by the insidious Tea Party contagion that has mutated traditional conservative politics (think Dwight Eisenhower), which prior to the rise of Nixon and Reagan, was actually respectable, intellectually honest and civil for the most part.
Here is a short list of videos of Chris Christie behaving like an "old fashioned guy's guy" in public:
In his 50+ years on this planet, The Gadfly has had the opportunity to meet and get to know quite a few "old fashioned" guys, a few of them elderly family members, and a few of them conservatives even. Of all of those acquaintances, The Gadfly cannot recall a single instance where any one of those men ever exhibited the kind of disrespectful, condescending and snide behavior toward people that Christie is well known for, and for which you see on display in those videos.
But you know -- it truly is not at all surprising that Christie's strongest defenders in this Bridgeghazi-gate scandal are Fox "News" pundits. It is being reported in a new book on Fox "News" chief Roger Ailes that Ailes had in fact made a concerted effort to draft Christie in to throwing his hat in the ring for the 2012 election and so it stands to reason that Ailes has sent down orders from on high to give Christie an old fashioned, Fox propaganda helping hand job in this crisis.
Ultimately though, The Gadfly believes Brit Hume is just downright confused. It's The Gadfly's humble view that Hume has erroneously juxtaposed what the meaning of the term "old fashioned guy's guy" is with behavior that most sane and normal people view as simply being a fucking obnoxious asshole.
