The Gadfly is a long-time, respectful fan of Ol' Blue Eyes.
Respectful in that he appreciates this wonderful man's music for what it is, nothing more, nothing less.
One would hardly think that with The Gadfly's musical background of being the first kid in his junior year in high school to be listening to Van Halen's "Runnin' With The Devil" in 1978 that he would also be a fanatic for Frank Sinatra's tunes, but it's true dear readers.
The Gadfly, as a kid, sneakily stayed up late many a night as a kid and watched movies on his family's old crappy time-period tv set, many movies and quite a few of them had Frank Sinatra in them. The Gadfly thought the man was Elvis cool .... oh yeah - just as cool, only in a different, more intelligent sort of way.
Sinatra oozed calculated indifference and simultaneously real human compassion. A real man with real feelings and he didn't give a flying fuck what anyone thought about his views in his on-screen characters and in real life.
Observe:
In a 1963 interview with Playboy, singer Frank Sinatra was asked the following questions:
Playboy: Are you a religious man?
Sinatra: "I believe in nature, in the birds, the sea, the sky, in everything I can see or that there is real evidence for. If these things are what you mean by God, then I believe in God. But I don't believe in a personal God to whom I look for comfort or for a natural on the next roll of the dice".
Sinatra: "There are things about organized religion which I resent. Christ is revered as the Prince of Peace, but more blood has been shed in His name than any other figure in history. You show me one step forward in the name of religion and I'll show you a hundred retrogressions. Remember, they were men of God who destroyed the educational treasures at Alexandria, who perpetrated the Inquisition in Spain, who burned the witches at Salem. Over 25,000 organized religions flourish on this planet, but the followers of each think all the others are miserably misguided and probably evil as well."
That folks is an honest man.
The Gadfly loves Sinatra tunes just as much as he loves AC/DC's Bon Scott's era hedonistic music. It is an overall love of music that allows this to happen. The Gadfly will share more of his eclectic musical tastes in days to come ... enjoy one of the masters for now . . .
