A few hundred years from now, after the human race has barely, albeit vainly, survived mass extinction due to it's own folly and ignorance, the handful of straggling descendants who are left roaming a nearly uninhabitable, smoking ruin of a planet come upon a scraggy, toasty piece of paper in the burned out ruins of a long abandoned skyscraper somewhere along the upper east coast of north America - it is a revealing relic of their ancestor's not too ancient past. The paper reads:
[ h/t to Hullabaloo: http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/2013/09/yes-this-is-insane-gun-nuts-lose-thread.html ]
And as the haunting, gaunt, barely recognizably human figures scan and attempt to digest the meaning of the words on the tattered piece of paper that they had found, The Gadfly fancies that future conversation going something like this:
1st Human Straggler: They were arguing about the wisdom of arming blind people?? I...I don't get it?
2nd Human Straggler: Uh-huh. It appears so. Apparently it was some ancient argument between people who were for gun control and people who weren't.
1st Human Straggler: Ohhhh - Ok. Well, I suppose that explains our present predicament then doesn't it?
2nd Human Straggler: How so?
1st Human Straggler: (Glancing around at his apocalyptic surroundings) Looks like the Gun lovers won the argument.
2nd Human Straggler: Uh-huh. It appears so.
If it weren't so sad, it almost might be funny.
