Some More of Those Generous, Republican Values . . . .

The Gadfly will make pretend he is befuddled by this stuff for the sake of making this conversation more entertaining, if The Gadfly's conservative friends will simply acknowledge that they truly do not want all of the "blahs" and the "Messicans" exercising their constitutional duty to vote for their chosen representative or presidential candidates.

Ergo . . . :

Two bills filed by Republican lawmakers seek to cut back early voting and eliminate same-day registration in North Carolina.
Senate Bill 428, filed by Sen. Jerry Tillman, R-Randolph, would cut the early voting period from two weeks to one and would eliminate same-day voter registration.
House Bill 451, filed by Rep. Edgar Starnes, R-Caldwell, goes even further. In addition to cutting early voting and same-day registration, it would also outlaw early voting on Sunday and straight-ticket voting.
"I just think that we will put some balance into the election process," Starnes said.

Now let us all agree, for the sake of debate, that the GOP is represented by the Archie Bunker types of the world and the Dems are represented by the "Meathead" Mike Stivics of the world.  Can we agree at least on that point?  Ok - so one of the things that the Archie Bunkers are always fucking bitching and moaning about is that the immigrants are not assimilating themselves fast enough in to American society - right??  So The Gadfly believes that it begs the question then - what could be more representative of a new U.S. citizen/former immigrant assimilating themselves in to our society than by that individual exercising their god-given, constitutional right to participate in the American electoral process?  Right??

So why then are Republicans and conservatives around the country doing every thing in their misbegotten power to make it extremely difficult for Americanized immigrants and minorities in general to exercise that right?  And don't flatter The Gadfly's horseshit detection capabilities by trotting out that dead horse of an fucking argument about "protecting the electoral process from fraud."  Actual voter fraud is so rare, that every time some right winger brings it up in conversation, Pinocchio's nose grows 6 inches.

So what we are left with then as to the GOP's motive for these insidious state level bills engineered to make it harder for people of color, people of less than Country Club incomes, and the old and infirm to more easily exercise their right to vote?  Hmmmm??

If The Gadfly has to ask the question twice, then it stands to reason that you the reader have not been paying very close attention since 2008 as to what's been going on in this country since America elected it's first black President.

Let's face the reality -- the Tea Party and the Old White Guy establishment have had enough of the "blah" President and his Kenyan, Muslim, Colonialist policies and they do dearly want a return to power of a Mitt "Never Met an Offshore Tax Evasion Haven He Didn't Like" Romney type of guy - you know - a guy just like them - to run "their" country.

So - now that The Gadfly has cleared up that bit of nasty business - about the only thing he can do at this point is to appeal to the fair-minded and sane people of this country to speak out and fight back against this shadow bigotry and to participate in the long fought for struggle for ALL Americans to legally exercise their constitutionally guaranteed right to vote -- no fucking ifs ands or buts about it.

Because if you let these pricks win these slimy state battles, it's just a matter of time before they will want to do it at the federal level if and when they ever regain control of the levers of federal power.
