None But The Gadfly Dares Call It Treason . . .

Marcus Tullius Cicero

A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.”

For the last few hours I was writing the post below and then on the phone about something not news related. Then I went online and saw this stunning piece from the Post about Jared Kushner. It has frankly taken me a while to absorb what it means and I’m still trying to.
Put simply, in secret meetings in December, Jared Kushner proposed to Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak setting up a “back channel” so the Trump team could communicate secretly and securely with Moscow. But this use of the phrase “back channel” does a serious disservice to back channels. A back channel is secret and unofficial communication through trust intermediaries that goes around the national security and diplomatic bureaucracy and provides some plausible deniability. Kushner proposed using the Russian government’s own secure communication facilities, presumably housed in Russian diplomatic facilities in Washington and New York, to communicate with Moscow behind the back of the US government, state, intelligence apparatus, military, etc.
Why exactly would you want to do that?

TPM's Josh Marshall asks the obvious question -- Why?  "Why exactly" would Drumpf's trusted aide-de-camp Jared Kushner approach the Russians requesting the use of the Russian government's own secure communications network so that Drumpf and his people could interact in secret, with the Kremlin presumably (they're in Moscow) outside the monitoring capabilities of American intelligence agencies?

Remember -- this is right after the election.  And also it's noted in the story that Michael Flynn was in this meeting with Kushner and the Russian Kislyak.  So why Mr. Kushner?  Why the need for the hush-hush secrecy?  Infinitely more importantly - why the need to beg favor from the Russians for the use of their secure communications facilities?

The Gadfly will tell you why dear readers.  It's so that Drumpf and his surrogates could speak freely with Putin and his crack team of election ratfuckers, without fear of American intelligence and law enforcement agencies hearing the details of the treason plotting.  Utilizing the Russian's secure communications network would allow them all to synchronize the cover up of their lies and their treachery.

Also - let's not forget the extraordinary lengths Drumpf and his gang have gone to these past few months to impede the FBI's investigation of Michael Flynn and other Drumpf surrogate's pre-election interactions with the Russians - to the extent that Drumpf suddenly and without notice, fired FBI head James Comey from his post and actually bragged to the Russians in an oval office meeting with them that he had eased the investigation pressure while denigrating Comey as a "crazy" "nutjob."

If The Gadfly's conservative friends have another answer for this behavior - please do share it with all of us so that your fellow American's inquiring minds can be put to rest wondering what the fuck these guys were doing playing double-naught spy with an American enemy state.

And while you conservatives are pulling those gobs of steaming bullshit out of your asses to offer up for those explanations, please also tell us how none of you would be the slightest upset, at all, or even mildly suspicious, if instead of Drumpf playing footsie with Putin and the KGB, it were Hillary Clinton and her aides.  Please regale us all of how that scenario, were it to be, would not have perturbed you one tiny, little bit.

The Gadfly's comments section is open for those explanations -- have at it.
