Do you want to know who The Gadfly raises a begrudged shot glass of fine Tequila to in this barely born new year? Edward freaking Snowden.
No, no-no -- wait before you pass judgement on that dear reader - show patience and listen.
The reason The Gadfly feels that way is that the computer worm of a man known as Edward Snowden - quite simply - provided pretty fucking positive proof of what most all of us reality-based thinking people have been suspecting for years, especially after 9/11, namely that our government used those terrorist attacks as justification to basically take a box cutter to the Constitution and utilize extreme measures to turn America into nothing more than a polished version of the goddamn former Soviet Union.
Spying on it's own citizens en-masse. Spying on it's allies. Torture. Lying. Lies upon lies, upon lies upon lies. Liars. All of them.
Edward Snowden has not given up the crown jewels of American intelligence, if he had he would be dead by now. What he has give up are the lumps of coal which show that this country's government, or it's spokespeople/leaders shouldn't be blindly trusted, regardless of which political party is in control. Our "leaders," for the most part, are nothing more than tools who give much more deference to the military industrial complex (gee - maybe because they're bought and paid for?) and million dollar money donors than they do to the $5 and $10 donors of the average citizens in their own districts.
That is what Edward Snowden exposed.
So yeah -- here you go Ed --- bottoms up --- oh - and btw -- if you see a shadow overhead -- duck for cover son.
