Ebola Can't Hold a Candle to The Destructiveness of This Disease . . .

Honestly folks - The Gadfly is not a man prone to wanton violence by any measure.  But when The Gadfly reads shit like this, particularly so coming on the heels of the Charleston church massacre, The Gadfly is overcome by a passionate desire to seek this cocksucker out, grab him by the nape of his stupid, skinny red neck and toss him into oncoming traffic of the nearest interstate freeway at rush hour:

National Rifle Association board member Charles L. Cotton wrote that the victims of a mass shooting in a Charleston, South Carolina church died because of Reverend Clementa Pinckney's advocacy for gun safety laws.
Pinckney, along with eight others, was killed by a gunman during a June 17 attack at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church.
In 2013, Pinckney, who was also a South Carolina State Senator, introduced legislation to require more comprehensive background checks on gun sales and supported several other gun safety measures during his career as a legislator.
In a post on an online forum for Texas supporters of the concealed carry of handguns, Cotton wrote, "he [Rev. Pinckney] voted against concealed-carry. Eight of his church members who might be alive if he had expressly allowed members to carry handguns in church are dead. Innocent people died because of his position on a political issue."

Only a terminally diseased mind and soul borne of a terminally diseased culture could postulate that the six women and three men slaughtered while seeking solace and comfort in their place of worship at the Emmanuel AME Church would be alive if only their slain pastor, as well as his slain parishioners, had been packing heat and had whipped out their pistolas and returned fire after being ambushed by white supremacist Dylann Roof.

Charles Cotton and his iteration of the NRA, conjoined at the hip with the modern-day conservative movement, are a cancerous disease slowly and deliberately gnawing away at America's soul and human spirit.  They are a merciless plague ravaging the last vestiges of rightness and gracious humanity that remain in this country.

But this is the vision that these right wing conservatives have for America dear readers, and when the Charles Cottons of their ranks say shit like that above, they aren't joking.  What's that?  You want to go to church and commune in benevolent dignity with your maker?  Fuck that ... better strap on your Glock motherfucker.  Feel like heading out on Saturday to the park with your kids to spend some quality time with them?  Not if you ain't got your fully loaded AR-15 slung over your shoulder bitch.  Thinking about spending the day with your elderly parents at the local shopping mall and taking them out for lunch?  Better have that .57 Magnum tucked away in your waistband asshole.

It is a very --- no extremely --- sick culture.  And the cure is obvious to anyone who gives a shit to think seriously for 5 seconds about it.  Problem is - this country does not have the will or the moral courage to implement the cure.  Hell -- if the classroom at Sandy Hook Elementary and it's walls and floors splattered with the brains and guts of a couple of dozen toddlers didn't move this country to take action, then what makes anyone think that a handful of innocent, black churchgoers slaughtered in their house of worship will make a difference?

It gets harder and harder every day for The Gadfly to feel much of anything resembling pride in his nation of birth.
