Lunatic Fringe . . . . The Heartland of America and the Heart and Soul of the Republican Party . . . .

This is yet another factor that is preventing America from having nice things:

EDMOND, Oklahoma -An Edmond doctor is under fire for allegedly injecting patients across Oklahoma with a mysterious formula called the "Jesus shot."
Dr. John Michael Lonergan is a former federal prison inmate who was convicted of tax evasion, mail fraud and healthcare fraud in Ohio. Lonergan is also known as "Dr. Mike."
In 2005, the State Medical Board of Ohio permanently revoked Lonergan's medical license following his federal convictions. After Lonergan's incarceration, the Oklahoma Medical Board voted to allow Lonergan to practice medicine in 2012 under state supervision.
Recent e-mails sent to News 9's newsroom claim the doctor is actively injecting people across the state with a mysterious formula called the "Jesus shot." News 9 tracked Lonergan to Full Circle Health in Edmond as well as Doorway To Health in Moore. A receptionist at the Edmond clinic answered questions in a recorded phone call with News 9.
News 9: "Why is it called the Jesus shot?
Clinic: "I don't know why [Lonergan] calls it that."
News 9: "What's in it?"
Clinic: "You would have to sit down for a consultation with [Lonergan]. I do not know what the formula is."
Full Circle Health Clinic Director Barbie Schrick says Lonergan is a part-time employee. Schrick promises to investigate Lonergan's "miracle injection." The "Jesus shot" is described as an injection that takes away pain for life. It costs $300, according to the clinic.
"I am so glad you're telling me about this," Schrick told News 9's Michael Konopasek. "Thank God for the news that investigates and finds things out for people. Thank you."

The Gadfly cannot decide which is the most horrifying part of this story - the fact that the Oklahoma State Medical Board granted a convicted felony fraudster a license to practice medicine, or the fact that there appeared to be no shortage of patients eagerly willing to fork over $300 in cold hard cash to "Dr. Mike" for an injection only known as the "Jesus shot."

Go watch the local TV news outlet video at the link above and tell The Gadfly that that "Clinic Director" Barbie Schrick isn't as phony as a three dollar bill when she insists that she had no knowledge of the miraculous "Jesus shot" that Dr. Mike was injecting her clinic's patients with and expressed fawning joy that the news investigative team had brought it to her attention.  Sure - she didn't know - at least for as long as those nightly cash bags dropped off at their bank remained full.  And the fact that this "part time" "Director" thanked God for the investigation simply magnified the dark comedy aspect of it all.

And this is the reason that The Gadfly states at the top of this post that this story is one of many factors that is preventing our country from having nice things -- namely because our country has much more than it's worldly share of these uninformed, knuckledragging dimwits who truly believe that "Dr. Mike's" $300, mysterious "Jesus shot" will cure pain for life.  And sad to say - these are people who vote in droves as well, and who also believe universal health care is the work of Satan and that Barack Obama is the Anti-Christ.

All for which reason The Gadfly resignedly postulates dear readers -- that until the sane citizens of this country come to grips with the reality that at least a quarter, perhaps even as much as a third, of it's populace is suffering from some form of mass delusional paranoia schizophrenia and really should be under constant adult supervision and also should be required to pass a psychiatric/psychological exam before being allowed to participate in determining the nation's future, there is not much chance of things ever changing for the better.

**UPDATE**:  Go to the link for the article (link above) and take a few minutes to peruse through the comments section.  The number of people defending this "Dr. Mike" and his "Jesus shot" is just brain-achingly astounding -- for the sole reason, apparently, that he's doing the Baby Jeebus' work.  And thus The Gadfly rests his case as to why these people need adult supervision and should be required to be treated for mental illness before being allowed to vote.
