"The hottest place in Hell is reserved for those who remain neutral in times of great moral conflict." ... ~~~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

For this following reason, along with the estimated half a million dead Iraqi civilians, that every time The Gadfly sees the diabolically evil fuck Dick Cheney on his teevee screen, The Gadfly's family has to put him in physical restraints and force-feed him fistfuls of Xanax to keep him from going postal on his boob tube.

The United States has likely reached a grim but historic milestone in the war on terror: 1 million veterans injured from the fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. But you haven't heard this reported anywhere else. Why? Because the government is no longer sharing this information with the public.
All that can be said with any certainty is that as of last December more than 900,000 service men and women had been treated at Department of Veterans Affairs hospitals and clinics since returning from war zones in Iraq and Afghanistan, and that the monthly rate of new patients to these facilities as of the end of 2012 was around 10,000. Beyond that, the picture gets murky. In March, VA abruptly stopped releasing statistics on non-fatal war casualties to the public. However, experts say that there is no reason to suspect the monthly rate of new patients has changed.

The Gadfly saw that smirking demon Richard Cheney on ABC with George Stephapoopolous last week and was simply stunned to hear the raspy voice of the dark lord waxing rhapsodic about his beloved GOP and shamelessly pimping his execrable spawn Liz for Wyoming senator.

In a sane and just world, the people who's governing actions were directly responsible for the kind of human carnage that has resulted from the Iraq clusterfuck not only would never be allowed to express their political views over the public airwaves ever, ever again, they would instead be giving interviews from a prison cell in The Hague.

But what does The Gadfly know?  He's just some dirty old fucking liberal hippie blogger who only (along with many other dirty old hippie liberal bloggers) warned Americans about letting their politicians talk them in to supporting the Iraq invasion and predicted it would become a foreign policy blunder for the ages (see previous and now retired iteration of this blog krazeeinjun--- it's all there in the history.

The problem with being right about stuff like that though, is that nobody remembers it.  Or at least nobody wants to remember it because the shame associated with not having had the courage to speak out at the time is just too big of a cross to bear for some.

Anyhow - Obama, if he were smart, would make a concerted and very public effort to help these veterans and forever gain their trust and respect.  But since it appears that Mr. Obama at present is much too busy trying to keep the Teabaggers from pouring gasoline on the nation's economic house and tossing a lit match on to it, it's doubtful this will become a seminal issue of his presidency --which by all rights and decency it should be.

And as far as Dick Cheney goes . . . . . .

Yup -- one way ticket to the hot house.
