"For God so loved the world, that he gave his 2nd begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

Thus commenceth the Kingly anointing:

Right wing Senator Ted Cruz was compared to Jesus Christ at a Republican Party event in Iowa.
Cruz (R-TX) was hailed as someone willing to be “crucified for their belief system” by conservative activist Steve Scheffler, speaking at the Iowa Events Center on October 25.
According to Buzzfeed reporter McKay Coppins, the crowd responded positively to the comparison, with some saying “amen” in response.

The Gadfly sees one monumentally fatal flaw in the Iowa conservative's elevation of Ted Cruz to earth bound savior status.  Far be it for The Gadfly to parade his religious background around, but if The Gadfly's decrepit old man memory is still even semi-functional, The Gadfly recalls that the Jesus he learned about in his staid, upper midwest, Lutheran Sunday school classes, dedicated his life to feeding the hungry, healing the sick and not passing judgement on others.

So how, pray tell exactly, do these Iowa conservatives reconcile what Ted Cruz is attempting to accomplish with his crusades to slash funding for food stamp and child poverty programs, deny currently uninsured Americans from gaining access to affordable health care, and his constant condemnations of anyone, including those in his own party, who doesn't suck up to his brand of scorched earth politics?

As The Gadfly sees it, Ted Cruz believes remorselessly in doing the exact opposite of what Jesus did which was to feed the hungry, heal the sick and judge not.

And as such - wouldn't that in actuality then make him to be the Antichrist?

Just asking folks - for The Gadfly believes it is a eminently fair question to propose since there seems to be this concerted effort within evangelical circles to feed in to Cruz's already budding God complex by elevating him to the same ethereal level as the King of Kings himself.

Apparently all that remains for the current day Christian right to complete their wet dream of being living witnesses at the second coming of Jesus is to affix a crown of thorns on Cruz's pointy head, laden him with a wooden cross and march him down Pennsylvania Avenue -- which henceforth and forevermore shall be known as the Via Dolorosa of the new religion of Cruzianity.
